The router has quirky problems, December 11, 2007
By user (UT USA)
The card is fine, but the router has problems which we eventually overcame with hours of trial and error and time spent on tech suppport calls, where they knew less about the problem than what I learned on my own:

1) The connection will very frequently drop, until you update the firmware on the router.
2) However, if you update to the very newest firmware, post July 2005, you get other problems, namely: We have an HP Officejet networked to the router, via cable, with its own local IP address. With the newest firmware on the router, the printer's IP address and connection gets dropped by the router just as soon as the printer goes into sleep mode, which for us was after 1 hour. We shouldn't have to have the printer constantly on to keep a connection to the router. After MUCH trial and error, I was able to determine that if I went back several revisions, the printer never lost its connection even when it went into sleep mode.
3) WPA and WPA2 wireless transmissions do not work correctly with this router - the connection will either drop too easily, or it will not connect at all at bootup, you have to do a Repair on the wireless connection in Network Properties before it will connect. THIS is fixed in the latest firmware updates, but the prior networked printer problem exists. So we have to settle with the lesser WEP encryption.
4) Lastly, we have fibernet high speed internet connection, at 10-15 mbps, which the router and card handle just fine, but recently, our ISP is now offering 50 mbps. So we signed up for it. DIRECT CABLE connection to the router does give us close to the 50 mbps, however, the router will not transmit anything above 14 mbps for internet - this is whether or not encrypted wireless is used. The card and router boast 108 mbps LAN transmission, but it can't handle doing 50mpbs wireless internet. I have verified this with other g-mode adapters which are capable of 54 mbps, and it will only meter-out at 13-14 mbps upload and download. Most users will not have this issue, I realize, but I just thought I would point it out. There will be a day when these kinds of speeds will be available commonly, and this router is not the right device for that day.

D-Link Wireless Network Kit, 802.11g, 108Mbps:
I have owned this product for almost 3 years. I have had no problems with it at all. I am not a tech inclined girl and even I could get this up and running with no problems.

D-Link! Affordable and excellent quality., July 6, 2007

I bought this to replace my old 802.11b Linksys routers. I was quite happy with the setup and it's fairly comprehensive options for a small/medium network. I was so happy, I use this for my company's 15 user internal network. Decent reception at 300 feet in between cheap/thin walls - maybe 2-2.5" at most.
Bought a couple more for backup in case of hardware failure; especially since I can always use the PCMCIA cards.

    very good, May 15, 2007

Truly high speed, February 18, 2007
By user (NH, USA)
This wireless router performs exactly as advertised, I'm set up using the 108 Mbps to my laptop on the other end of the house.

The set up was a little difficult to get used to, which is why I rated it 4 instead of 5 stars. Once I learned the details of the set up routine, it was OK, just needs a little better, more "user friendly" manual.

    Excellent product, January 24, 2007

Excelent product and very easy to install. The most difficult part of setting up a network was fixing connectors to cables for the wired part of the network.

Works very well!, January 14, 2007

This product is very good and it's working very well. I just need to figure out how to share my printer! But I think that's only about configurations.

    Very Satisfied, January 11, 2007
By user (Sao Paulo, Brazil)
This router is great. I needed a router and neither of my laptops have built-in wireless feature. So I decided to by this router that came with a PCMCIA Card. It has been great. I have a personal laptop with the PCMCIA card and it works from any where in my home. The router is in the top floor and I use the laptop downstairs regularly with out any problems. The other laptop is connected to the router and it works just perfect. I very satisfied and never had any problems installing, I just followed the instructions and the rest was a breeze.

Router is OK, but have not been able to make the wireless card work for my IBM Thinkpad T20 and I have been frustrated by the lack of support.

I have bought four of these and everyone of them has worked flawlessly. This unit has a good range, even in a multi level house situation.

    Performance of D Link Wireless DI-624, January 3, 2007
By user
My DLink keeps dropping signal. Every two three days I have to power cycle the box to make it work. Not a good router.

Worked great ... for two days, December 30, 2006
By user (The Space City: Houston, Texas)
The router worked great for two days (installation was easy), then the signal strength decayed to next-to-nothing. I brought my laptop up about ten feet away from the router and could not get a reliable signal. Over the first two days, the signal strength was excellent. Two calls to tech support did not resolve the matter, with the technician telling me to return the unit. So, I'm off to do that, now. The first call to tech support landed me somewhere around the other side of the planet, where the connection was awful and I could not understand the heavily accented voice on the other end.

I also have a D-Link Internet camera, which works flawlessly. For the first two days, the D-Link wireless router did also. After reading the other reviews here, my impression is that D-Link makes great products, but that their quality control may be lacking. It seems sort of hit and miss.

Good product, poor tech support, December 14, 2006
By user (In America where English is the language of choice)
The router works well but the instructions were misleading. Tech support
was a joke because the person didn't speak English. After 5 minutes of frustration I thanked him and hung up. Tried to decipher the instructions
AGAIN, then called for help AGAIN. This time the guy spoke English but
obviously wasn't concerned about customer service as it seemed I was
'bothering' him. Not sure I'd buy D link again. Linksys works just as
well.

Super good deal., November 10, 2006

One of the best deals I've made on a wireless router/access point. The G650 was close to free with the rebate!! Super happy with this one.

Easy to install, October 17, 2006
By user (N. Bergen. NJ)
took me all of two minutes to install, the card needed the cd. The router was plug & play. Works great haven't found a problem yet.

Matching Adaptor has horrible reviews, August 30, 2006
By user (Miami, FL USA)
This Router is fine but the reviews on the matching adaptor/wirless card are terrible. Therefore, it makes no sense to buy this router. I would suggest to buy a router that has a matching wirless card/adaptor that is good as well. From what I've read, Lynksys makes a good set.

    JUNK, August 23, 2006
By user
The router set up easy and worked fine. The card on the other hand was junk. I installed the drivers and it caused an error. I called customer noservice and got someone from India and could not hardly understand. He told me what to do and it still did not work. I called back the next day and after about two hours of trying to fix (understand bad english)they said it was bad.
I bought a belkin router and card. It has worked perfect for almost two months now

    Good product., July 4, 2006

I got some problems during installation, but the technical support from D-Link and Qwest did a good job solving the problems.
