Hey guy-
Depending on how Computer-y you are, Ill throw out that this uses a chipset 100% able to work with Linux out of the box! Works flawlessly after being auto-detected on a Ubuntu 7.1 machine!
And I was ready for a fight....

This wireless card doesn't seem to have the umph that I want. My laptop gets much better reception with its built in wireless ability that this does. Leads me to want the new wireless-n router and cards.

I bought this card along with a D-Link DI-624 Wireless Cable/DSL Router, 4-Port Switch, 802.11g, 108Mbps, both for less that $ 50. The router was refurbished and I was a little worried but so far it's worked pretty well.

Solved A Problem, June 15, 2007

I needed to work on computers in my basement. This card allows me to plug it into the computer I'm working on and access the internet through my wireless router. It works great and solves my problem. My router is about 60 feet from my work bench in the basement and I get good transfers.

I'll bet you aren't if you are using this card.
The reason I gave this ** rather than * is that it works great on XP and ME. But try using it with Vista running on a Core 2 Duo system, and the system freezes on bootup. My workaround is to disable the card, start up the system, then re-enable it. Then, it works fine. But one has to remember to disable it every time they intend to shutdown or restart their system. The D-Link website says there is a beta Vista driver, but I downloaded it and there was no change.
And speaking of D-Link support, three years ago, when I purchased my first D-Link product, it was great. Now, they have apparently oursourced to Asia somewhere, and it absolutely sucks. The support rep had me trying to fix the problem by troubleshooting it as a generic network problem--which it obviously isn't. It is a Vista/D-Link driver problem. He (or she) simply wouldn't accept the fact that there was no problem on my network.
What was my final solution? I drove two miles to my local Best Buy store and purchased a Belkin/USB wireless card for $17.95 plus tax. It works fine on my new Vista system.

Okay, so everyone has their own experience with this stuff. Maybe it's because we have the D-link wireless router that the Netgear card was a horror: constantly having to repair the network connection, having to reboot, dealing with weak signals, etc.
So I replaced my Netgear card with this D-link one and the problems completely disappeared. What else can I say - other than say I have:
- Windows XP (patched to the latest)
- a circa 2006 Dell XPS 400 with 2 gig of memory and a Pentium D CPU, running at 3.00GHz

After quickly scanning the directions, this wireless card was so easy to use!! Just follow the instructions--install the software first, then install the card, start up your computer and you are ready to go!! I was very impressed with the ease at which this product was to install and use.

The nice things about wireless is that with it you have a very neat instalation and doesn't have the wire mess. And with it you can have transfer transmission rate up tp 108Mbps, which is more faster them the most wired networks. I recommend.

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition. I already had the D-Link Extreme G wireless router. Installation was very easy (my experience with this sort of thing is limited to installing a couple of modems and memory modules) and XP recognized and started up the wireless card with no additional effort on my part.

I installed the device in a desktop computer running Windows ME but was unable to install the software. After several attempts I contacted D-Link support, they offered several suggestions but none worked. Finally I installed the device into another computer running Windows XP, the software installed flawlessly and everything worked fine. This is a great device if you are running Windows XP but if running an older version, I would not recommend it.

For a Wireless adapter that runs 802.11g this card has a easy setup and a detailed GUI for configuring it for use. Right now the drivers work for most operating systems except x64, this may be the only problem as more and more systems are coming with CPU's able to run x64 operating systems.

I have had trouble with this piece of hardware since I installed it. I went through numerous conversations with D-Link support trying to identify the issue, installing different driver versions and none of them have worked. Don't buy it, if you want my advice.
