Wonderful device, and wonderful service, October 18, 2005
By user (Doylestown, PA USA)
Excellent speed, with a very simple setup. Although I got into a problem with the install (no fault D-Link), I was able to quickly get through their helpdesk for tech support - and what I was helped by someone who I could actually understand (support was in California). Gotta love it when that is not outsourced! I used this in combination with the D-link 108 wireless NIC. Great range - easy to setup - easy to configure security.

Piece of Garbage, October 16, 2005
By user (Boston)
I bought this and the matching card for my laptop. THey've worked around 20% of the time, and the amount of agony they have put me through is extreme. The laptop card was the worst, but the router is almost as bad. Bad software, difficult to use, and one problem after another.
One of the multitude of times I talked to tech support, the technician actually told me I should have bought from a different company! First time I've ever heard that. Sadly, I give up. I'm now going to take his advice. My only question is whether I repeatedly hit the dlink with a hammer and throw it away (which would be extremely catharctic), or donate it to someone to make their life miserable.
I will never buy another dlink product. (Though for what its worth, their tech support did try to be helpful. They couldn't get it to work either)
I'm off to buy a linksys. I hope I have better luck.

Don't buy this to use with Playstation2 online games, October 11, 2005
By user (NY)
This router works great for everything but Playstation2 online games. I like the GUI and it is easy to set up. Customer service tried (I gave them three chances) to resolve my problems, but they ran out of ideas and couldn't help me. After running into the problems I had (voice chat in games didn't work), I noticed that it was mentioned by others that it was pretty much a brick wall as far as the Playstation was concerned. Oh well, I gave up and bought a LinkSys WRT54GS and it works flawlessly. The GUI is not quite as user friendly as the D-link, but it gives you a lot more options on how you want to give/restrict access.

Excellent Product, October 6, 2005
By user
An excellent product from D-Link. Does all what it says with minimum user interference, which is exactly what a router should do.
I needed a router to share my broadband connection, among several computers wired+wireless. It is very easy and quick to setup with reasonable defaults(first setup is done by friendly wizard).
It includes some nice security features, such as a mac and an ip filter to filter out unwanted mac addresses and ips, although this is easily overcome. It also has parental control features which are kinda cool, although i haven't and won't use them.
Although i didn't customize it, it revealed no open ports and no easy way to hack in on online tests, which makes it ideal if you want moderate security without tinkering too much with the firewall interface.
It uses virtual servers for port forwarding(exposing specific internal network ports on the public ip), which is very easy to set up.
The wireless connectivity is good, and it has a good range and speed. Although, i was unable to test the 802.11g since my laptop wireless uses b-based protocol. I did notice sometimes the connection dropping with the corresponding reconnects, although i think that this has something to do with the g-to-b protocol interoperability. But, it is hardly noticeable.
All in all, this a reasonably priced product for a mixed home network.

File and print sharing don't work, October 3, 2005
By user (Portland, Oregon)
I purchased the M version of this router, with MIMO. On my simple network (1 wired XP, 1 wireless XP, 1 wired Win98), I could access the internet from all systems. But, even though file and print sharing worked when I used an old Linksys router, it did not work at all with this D-Link router. Tech support said the router was bad, so I returned it, with the same results. Then they said they wouldn't answer networking questions (that was Microsoft's problem). I returned the D-Link, purchased a Linksys, and everything worked perfectly. Based on my experience, I would NOT recommend buying the D-Link product.

My 3rd one keeps rebooting every few minutes, September 29, 2005
By user (Los Angeles, CA)
This product is awful. I have exchanged it a few times and spent countless hours on the phone with them. It still keeps on rebooting itself every few minutes. Plus they keep costing me shipping and keep charging me for some parts I don't seem to send back. When you have to send yours back and you will. Make sure you put all cable and plastic pieces back in. The worst I have ever owned.

Lousy product - Don't buy this, September 23, 2005
By user (Chicago, IL USA)
I replaced my Netgear B router with this one - what a mistake! The connection drops always. I upgraded my firmware by 2 versions. Nothing helps. Netgear used to work like a charm. There is no reason for the connection to drop. I couldnt connect my laptops w/o interruptions.
Buy any other product other than this. I would recommend NetGear. I am going to get NetGear for myself.

DI-624, September 20, 2005
By user (New Mexico Territory)
The wizard is not intuitive, but after a time you understand it and it is easy. The 108mbs is only if all wireless computers on the network are at 108. It always shows port 113 as closed, but I have not found a way to stealth it. I replace a Microsoft MN-700 with it and it seems to be faster, but the security is not as good.

The perfect solution for wireless networking, September 19, 2005
By user
I purchased this wireless router to link my notebook and desktop computer and share my high-speed broadband connection. This product was unbelieveably simple to install and configure, and the process only took a few minutes! The signal produced by the router is excellent and can be received by my notebook virtually anywhere in a 3,000+ square foot home without sacrificing signal quality or speed of connection. I'm currently running about 2.5Mbps downstream to the router, and I don't notice any decrease in bandwidth when using multiple computers. This product is well worth the small price and a must-have for anyone interested in having a hassle-free wireless network.

Quick and Easy Set-up, full-featured, September 15, 2005
By user (Columbia, MO USA)
Very quick and easy set-up. Rich set of admin features. I bought it to replace a much older version with failing LAN ports. Very easily switched wireless devices over to this router with minimal down time. No complications cloning MAC for use with my cable modem on the WAN port.

It's a pain, September 11, 2005
By user
When it works, it works fine. Otherwise, the continual dropping of its Internet connection is a royal pain. Absolutely no reason for that to happen

Serious D-Link Problem, September 8, 2005
By user
I have nothing nice to say about this product. I only wish I had read the reviews more carefully. Obviously, most of the positive reviews are planted. Typically these reviews are 5-stars, noncritical, never use a real name and have the nerve to thank D-link by name. They are often written by reviewers that only recommend D-Link products, 5-stars of course, and strangely all their reviews are submitted on the same day.
Beware of D-Link.

Pure Crap. Don't waste your money!, September 8, 2005
By user (Orange County, CA)
I've had nothing but bad experiences with this router. I've paired it with nothing but D-link wireless NICs, including the new Pre-N notebook card. In my tiny 600sft apartment, the router drops the link frequently. Most of the time, it requires that I cycle the routers power. In addition, the latest D-Link drivers for the desktop network cards causes Windows XP to crash to the Blue Screen of Death! The router doesn't support the latest encryption technologies. And, D-Link customer service had no idea when a firmware update would be available to improve reliability or encryption. All in all, I'm extremely dissapointed with this router. I'm planning to sell all my D-Link hardware on E-bay, and buy Linksys hardware instead.

Nice features but lots of connection drops, September 5, 2005
By user
I wish I read all these reviews before buying this bad product.
I am having a lot of connection drops for both wired and wireless connections. Upgrading to the newest firmware didn't help it at all. I even think it became worse after the upgrade.
I don't write product reviews at all, but I decided to write my first review. Just an hour ago, I tried to send a 10MB file to my friend over ICQ, and I gave it up after having 3 connection drops.
On the good side, it is easy to setup and it comes with some good features like MAC cloning, firewall etc.
I tried to set a DMZ to one of my machines without much luck.
I'm sending it back.

FALSE CABLE DISCONNECT REPORT, August 29, 2005
By user (Charlotte, NC)
Set-up is really easy with Road Runner broadband ISP. The Technical Service Department is easy to reach (average hold time less than 10 minutes), easy to understand and generally helpful. A problem with my unit was that it would report that a cable was disconnected on each of 2 attached PCs and a wireless notebook. No cables were disconnected. This would temporarily 'disconnect' the web stie (or chat room as AIM). Tech service suggested some PC setting changes but that did not resolve the problem. D-Link is sending a replacement unit. To get faster turn-around, you must give your Credit Card number (and pay for expedited delivery if you want that). They freeze the amount until they get the defective unit back. I haven't gotten the replacement yet.

Caveat usage, August 26, 2005
By user (Colorado USA)
Like the previous reviewer, I am finding lots of incompabilities between vendors. My D-L 624 works just peachy with the built-in in my wife's Dell, and likes my Proxim Orinoco. It hates my son's Linksys when any form of encryption is enabled, but with WEP off handles it fairly well. For work I coupled the D-Link 624 with the 650 card and it works just fine. I had my son buy a Linksys card because the router that he's sharing at school is a Linksys, but which refused to recognize the Proxim card that works with my D-Link. I think all of this indicates just how imature this technology is. It probably ain't you if it doesn't work.
Also, DLink does a pretty good job of updating their firmware, and you probably want to take the time to update (easy, just follow the instructions) before you start loading MACs and enabling things (they don't recommend you import your old settings after you flash the bios).

This is the worst router of all time, August 26, 2005
By user
This is a horrible device. I have personal experience with 2 of this model and they are both defective in different ways. One drops network connections (on the wired switch portion even... how hard is it to get a wired switch right?) on a fairly regular basis for no explicable reason only to reconnect a fraction of a second later. The other has a wireless radio that works for about an hour or two then stops working and the router needs to be reset in order to get it working again (for another hour or two).
This is literally the worst networking device I have ever used, and that goes back to the old days of 10base2. You would be better off making your own router out of gum wrappers and paper clips. It would be at least as reliable.

D-Link DI-624 Wireless Cable/DSL Router, 4-Port Switch, 802.11g, 108Mbps, August 20, 2005
By user (Riverside, CA USA)
The router works like a charm. Although I had some initial trouble connecting it up, which required a call to D-Link, the router has worked perfectly ever since. I was a little worried because the walls in the house are made of concrete, not wallboard, but the signal has worked wonderfully through all of them.

Great for a newbie wifi user, August 16, 2005
By user (Merrimack, NH USA)
I bought this router in conjunction with a new notebook that is my first. It's meant to be a desktop replacement, so I still only have one computer hooked up. This router works great as an access point/wi-fi router! Even for someone with no experience, I was hooked up within 10 minutes out of the box. The software has a nice easy connection wizard. The signal is strong all through my 2 story house. I know I'm not using it to its full potential, but I highly recommend it for ease of use!
