Flimsy and fragile, April 2, 2006
By user (San Diego, CA USA)
I bought this to work with my Macintosh. I needed a wireless USB adapter to work with my wireless keyboard and mouse. Since this was the least expensive unit, I bought it. I installed it with no trouble, and it performed well. After owning it for a couple weeks, I was moving my computer around and bumped the adapter against my desk. The two halves of the outer plastic casing popped off and the metal connector bent slightly. I popped the case back together and straighted it out, but it no longer worked. Since I thought it was my fault, I bought another one. I had only owned the second one a couple days, when I bumped the adapter with my foot while crossing my legs. Guess what? The same thing happened. This time I don't think it's my fault. The price is good and the performance is okay, but the construction is flimsy.

A little difficult to set up for the novice user, March 28, 2006
By user
I would have given this item a 5 out of 5, except for the issue with generic windows driver installation with Win XP SP2 overwriting the D-Link driver during the initial setup process. Gives the user all sorts of weird error messages. You'll probably see one red and one blue Bluetooth "B's" in your system tray after the software installation.

The Solution (AFTER FINISHING THE INTIAL SETUP):
-Right-Click "My Computer"
-Select "Properties"
-Click "Hardware" tab
-Click "Device Manager"
-Drop down Bluetooth devices
-Right Click "Generic" one on the list
-Select "Properties"
-Click "Drivers" tab
-Click "Update Drivers"
-Select "Install from specified location"
-Select "Don't Search. I'll select..."
-Select "D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter"
-Click "Next"
-And your Done!

You'll still need to setup the individual bluetooth devices by running the "My Bluetooth Places" wizard.

Can NOT connect to a wireless network, March 28, 2006
By user (San Jose, Ca)
If you want to buy this device to connect to a wireless network, don't.
The only way this device gets you online is with the use of a cell phone.
I bought this device after I saw it advertised that it connects to a wireless network.
After it arrived, I found out otherwise. D-Links tech support doesn't know much about what this device can do, they had to search online to find out, while I was on hold. I'm sure I can use this device for other applications, but I am dissapointed with how the ads say you can connect to a wireless network.

I had some minor difficulty getting the drivers installed
correctly. Once I got those installed and configured the
software, I was pleased with the product.

Great, but sync problems with HotSync using Treo 650, March 19, 2006
By user
The product is great. Small, easy to tote around. The dial-up networking is great using my Verizon Treo 650. Not superfast, but very usable to casual browsing. It's somewhere between dial-up and the slow dsl.

The only problem I experienced with it is when I hotsync with my Palm Treo and the sync takes too long (which is almost every time), the connection would disconnect and the hotsync would fail. I don't know if it's my laptop's fault or the adapter's fault. But for some reason, the connection cannot last through an entire long hotsync.

    No Problems, March 14, 2006

I bought this for my IBM T40 to be able to use it with my IP phone and it works great. Easy to load and use- I don't know why there are so many that have issues.

Works GREAT right ou tof the box! I own an Apple G4 running Tiger and had no problems at all. Just opened the box, plugged into my USB port and I was getting a signal instantly. OS X has all the bluetooth software pre-installed...Couldn't have been easier!!

Works with my iMac, March 10, 2006
By user (Vancouver, WA USA)
Bought this along with the DBT-320 for a wireless connection with my Canon Multifuntion printer. Could not get it to work, turns out the -320 is not compatible with multifuntion printers.
I bought the Canon BU-20 bluetooth for my new Canon MP500 printer, this works great with the DBT-120.
Setting up the DBT-120 on my iMac took all of 5 minutes. Just plugged it into a USB port, did the Bluetooth setup, and it quickly found the printer. Works great, although printing via bluetooth is much slower than with a USB connection.

Perfect Performance for a Fair Price, March 10, 2006

I've been using this adapter with my Apple laptop computer and it's been a great addition. If you don't already have bluetooth built in, this makes life so simple if you want to use Bluetooth compatible devices.

Bluetooth USB works just as expected, March 9, 2006
By user (East Bay, CA USA)
I'm using the D-Link USB adapter with my iMac running OSX Tiger, and it works like a charm with my Apple bluetooth-enabled mouse and keyboard. The first time you plug it in, it detects what's around and you set them up and then no hassles ever again.
Highly recommended for Mac users.

Do not install the software if you have windows xp sp2 windows automaticly instals it and has more user friendly software.

Horrible Product, SHAMEFUL Tech Support, incompatible with any firewall., March 1, 2006
By user (Boston, MA USA)
First of all, I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional. I'm not a deep geek, but I understand internet communication and what constitutes "ease of use".

The D-Link DBT-120 USB dongle does plenty of ugly undocumented things. For example, it constantly monitors the Bluetooth exchange folder, which strangely slows my 850MHz system.

What's very annoying is that it hooks into Microsoft Office applications and adds a menu option "Send to Bluetooth". This pings my firewall on UDP:37926 every time I start an office application, and even though I've allowed that port, it totally locks up my computer (the firewall logs show it allowing the communication, and blocking the communication). Right now, I have to disconnect from the internet, shut down my firewall, start the Office app, then re-start my firewall. I have this problem even when I kill the background process BTTRAY.EXE, which tells me that D-Link is hooked into my system in a very, very naughty way.

This appears to be firewall independent - after prowling the newsgroups, I see that this occurs regardless of the firewall you use.

So, I called D-Link's tech support. They REQUIRE your full name, telephone number, full address, and an email address. If you do not give them any of this, they will not help you.

After many calls to D-Link's tech support, I'm 100% sure that all the problems are D-Link's fault. How do I know? For example, when they tell you to "Call Microsoft". That's an old tech support trick to get you off the phone. Or, when they tell you to "uninstall the product, then re-install it". I did that the first time they told me. But in subsequent calls, they told me to do it again. That's another tech support trick to get rid of you.

I called D-Link's tech support EIGHT TIMES in one day, each times hoping I'd get someone knowledgeable. Each call, including initial hold times and "can you please hold", lasted at least 45 minutes - the longest was 1 hour 30 minutes, after which they hung up.

D-Link tech support is definitely not technical. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that they are not technical. NOBODY knew what a "port" is. Nobody. Nobody is technical. Nobody. Except for three of my eight calls, they either hung up, or placed me on hold and forgot about me. I know now that if I had bothered to check forums on the internet beforehand I'd know that this is how D-Link's support behaves when they can't solve a problem.

I got one D-Link tech support guy who told me that "it's your fault for using Microsoft. You should switch to Linux". I was absolutely speechless. Can you believe this? When I regained my composure politely asked him, "Are you saying D-Link products are incompatible with Windows?", he placed me on hold, where I was disconnected after ten minutes.

D-Link Bluetooth is horrible. Their tech support is shameful and a disgrace. Their software is intrusive, and does many ugly and undocumented things that slow your system and possibly violate your privacy (I don't have time to go into the other firewall issues - ex: it tries to access an outside IP address).

This product is to be avoided at all costs.

Nice Product, Works Great., February 27, 2006
By user (Jacksonville, FL)
After reading the previous review, i was a bit skeptical about buying it. But since there was a rebate and i would eventually pay only $20 for the product, it was worth the risk and i am happy i bought it.

As mentioned in the previous review, the installation doesnt go exactly as mentioned in the quick installation guide, but theres only one extra step that needs to be done in order to install it properly. (This is for Windows XP with Service Pack 2)

Start the installation as mentioned in the quick installation guide by installing the driver first before plugging in the Bluetooth adapter. Follow the onscreen prompts to install the driver, which is exactly as its shown in the quick installation manual. Once the installation is done, you will see two bluetooth device icons on the taskbar (bottom right) of your screen. One is windows default, and the other is the driver for your Bluetooth adapter which will have a red color sign inside the blue icon. The only extra step now to be done to make it white (i.e. work :) is

- Right click on my computer icon and select manage. On the left side under System Tools, select device manager and that will pop up all the devices on your computer in the right window.
- Select the Bluetooth Radios and expand it. It will show 2 icons underneath it.
- Select the "Generic Bluetooth Radio" and rightclick on it and select "Update Driver"
- Select "No, not this time" on the wizard for connect to windows Update, and click Next
- Click "Install from a list or specific Location"
- Select, "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install"
- Select the "D-Link DBT - 120 USB Bluetooth Adapter" under Compatible Hardware and click Next.

Thats it. Now you can follow the Step 2 on the quick installation guide to Configure your bluetooth.

Hope this helps.

This item does not seem to be compatibile with my Nokia Bluetooth enabled flip phone. My intention when purchasing this item was to use my cell phone as my internet connection as well as integrating the phone book in my cell with my ipod. So far, this item has no use to me.

The Standard for 3rd-party Macintosh Bluetooth, February 25, 2006
By user (New York, NY)
This is the 3rd D-Link Bluetooth Adapter I've purchased and the only 3rd-party one that Apple officially recognizes and "supports." If your Mac didn't come from Apple with built-in BT, this is the way to go.

    Phone Fun, February 25, 2006
By user (Seattle, WA USA)
I purchased a couple of these for downloading pictures, songs and profiles to my cell phone and couldn't be happier. The stuff that I was being charged two bucks a pop for from the cell company is now free and I can get cool stuff that they don't have. Setup was a snap, especially on my Mac (OS X 10.4.5) which already knew what a D-Link DBT-120 was.

Using on an HP notebook with XP Home edition OS. Installation of drivers/software was quick, very easy setup. Product works very well, don't need to stay close to the antenna for this to work. I previously used a USB wireless mouse, had to be within 2 ft to expect reliability. Now using a Logitec optical Bluetooth enabled mouse,I can use the mouse at a convenient distance often using the arm of a chair or my leg as a mouse surface when no flat surface is available. No drop outs experienced. Highly recommend this product for short range Bluetooth devices.
