I bought this to connect with my cell phone. It works great for data and photos.

Works well enough for me. Plugged it right into my PowerMac G5 and had no issues. Powered right up, my phone (Sony W810i) synced right up, and I'm good to go. Sure beats trying to install an internal BT card - both in price and ease of use.

Nice if you use it with a Mac, March 17, 2007

I use this with a 4+ year old Powerbook G4 that came without bluetooth. I plug it in and Mac OS X recognizes it. It works fine since. However, this adapter only supports older bluetooth standard, so file transfer is slow, peaking at ~70KB/s.

Piece of junk. I spent 4 hours trying to install it. Even called technical support twice. In the end, the item was defective and I returned it. Bought a rival's product and it worked immediately, out of the box.

I bought this in order to transfer photos from my RAZR to my computer. The software is simple to use, and my pics are now published in my blog. Couldn't be happier!

This was my second bluetooth adapter I have bought. I could never get the other unit (different model and brand) to work but this one installed easily and worked the first time with my Gateway laptop to Palm Lifedrive.

NO VISTA support, bad communication, February 24, 2007
By user
i bought this while back and just upgrade to vista recently. Vista recognize the adapter but has no profile for it. went to dlink website and i didn't see a vista driver. Email the customer service. they kindly responded me too look in to a page that has all the vista for Dlink products see if it's in there. NOO. Option 2, TRY xp driver.
Trying is not my job. I bought the product i expect it to work. oh well, if you plan to upgrade to vista or already a vista owner. This adapter has no offical drivers for it as of FEB 23,2007

I strongly recommend against purchasing this as a bluetooth solution. First and foremost, this particular adapter recieves serious interference from wireless networks (operating in the 2.4ghz range, ie wireless b or wireless g). This is understandable, to some extent. You might expect some static or clipping. In fact, it was unusable. Speech was horribly garbled as was incoming sound. If I turn off the router the problem goes away. If I put my phone at the same distance as this bluetooth adapter and use my headset with the phone instead, the reception is nearly crystal clear (the router still causes a bit of static, but it's easily tolerable). Draw your own conclusions from the above experiment.

Another thing that should be noted is that dlink does not actually support this adapter. Dlink has no drivers that will work with this device, though they will swear up and down that they do. Customer support suggested I return the product. After all, it must be broken if it doesnt work with their supplied drivers (the drivers on their website and cd are the same). I managed to get it working by figuring out exactly what kind of stack it required and downloading drivers for a bluetooth adapter that uses the same drivers (Toshiba 4.0 if anyone is curious). What I am saying here is that, while you might get it to work, you will only do so if you are really tech saavy and have about 2 hours to spend working on it. The adapter will work without the drivers, but it won't do stuff like let you connect to headsets.

Again, I strongly recommend against this adapter. I got it for $10 and I regret it.

This item works perfect with my old G4 867. What more can I say. It just works!

    Adapter works, Drivers don't, January 29, 2007
By user (Jersey City, NJ, USA)
The bluetooth adapter works fine with the generic XP SP2 drivers. The drivers that come on the cd with the adapter do not install properly and are't even needed if you have SP2. I didn't find this out until I found the info on the internet. Dlink Tech support was not aware of this. If you buy this product don't install the drivers from the cd. It's ironic I bought dLink because I didn't want to go though driver hell.

Just a seamless installation. Unpack it and plug it into a USB socket. Bluetooth appears immediately,

Reliable and easy Bluetooth connectivity, January 19, 2007

I bought this for my first-generation iMac G5, which lacked Bluetooth hardware. Thus far I've used it only for hot-synching my Palm PDA, so I can't speak to its effectiveness with other devices, but on my Mac it has worked flawlessly. Installation was basically plug-and-play.

I bought this blue-tooth adapter to tinker with my phone using the BitPim software. It worked and now I'm able to sync my calender data from computer to LG VX8300. It's the only thing I've used it for so far, but I'm happy with the result.

Adequate, but could be better., January 12, 2007

I purchased this product to use with the new Apple Wireless Keyboard & Mouse that I received. I have a Quicksilver G4, kinda old, so I needed to add the bluetooth capability to make the peripherals work. I read many positive and negative reviews for this product but ultimately, I bought it because that's explicitly what Apple recommended.

It works just fine when connected. The only problems I have come with the computer being in sleep mode. I can no longer wake up the machine using the mouse of keyboard like I could with the connected keyboard & mouse. So it's a little frustrating to have to touch the screen every time instead of simply jiggling the mouse or hitting a key. I don't know if this is a universal problem with bluetooth or it's just my system, but either way it bugs the crap out of me.

Bought this for my bluetooth mighty mouse. I've had it for about a month, and have had no issues. I'm using this on an Apple G4 Mirrored Doors.

Good price, great size, amazing functionality. Right out of the box I was linking with my cell and transfering pics and vids lighting fast. Great product. I wish all computer gizmos worked this well.

    D-Link == NoLink, January 11, 2007
By user (Brisbane, CA United States)
The DBT-120 sees and connects to my Treo 680, but won't allow syncs or file transfers or anything. Most of the time it fails for incomprensible reasons, but some of the time it fails because I can't provide the PIN. PIN? What PIN? D-Link didn't provide me with a PIN, nor does it give me anywhere to create one. There are a zillion settings, and I can't understand any of them. Mind you, I'm an IT professional -- I've been building and deconstructing computers and networks for 15 years, and I can't figure out the abominable documentation. David Rowell is right on.

i only use this for cell phone syncing, but it works great and is a lot cheaper than buying a new computer.

Camera phone pictures into my Mac, January 10, 2007
By user (San Diego, CA)
I had a new Sony Ericson cell phone with a camera capability, but how to get the pictures into iPhoto. The D-Link DBT-120 plugs right into a spare USB port, flashes a few times...and my cell phone was immediately recognized with the pictures downloaded quite quickly.
I didn't try and experiments as to distance or going through walls, etc. It worked perfectly at the desk where my G5 Mac sits and that was all I needed. Price seemed right, too.
It just sits there do whatever it does. Basicly, out of sight, out of mind. I'm anxious to see what else it can do as Bluetooth technology comes into wider use. I'd like to have my iPod transmit into my motorcycle helmet speakers without any wires. Nolan helmets has it and J & M will have such a unit in the spring

Hard to install, works great now, January 9, 2007
By user (Parkersburg, WV USA)
I tried to install the D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth USB Adapter myself, and couldn't get it to work. I called D-Link tech support several times, and nobody I talked to could get it to work either. Finally, I took it to a local computer tech, who had my computer for about 3 days. As far as I can tell, D-Link had put out a bad driver and also a bad Bluetooth stack (whatever that is).

Once we got everything we needed, it has been working pretty much flawlessly since I bought it 3 months ago. I have noticed that whenever I install new software, or do a major update to software, unrelated to the Bluetooth adapter, my Nokia software that uses the Bluetooth loses the connection. But it's a simple matter to click into the Nokia software, re-establish the connection, and then it works fine again.

Overall, I would say I am pleased with the product. I just wish it had been easier to install.
