First Bluetooth adapter, July 24, 2005
By user (Santa Clarita, CA)
I almost bought integrated Bluetooth with my laptop. It was that or HSM. I chose the HSM option, and decided to purchase the DBT-120 BT USB adapter.
I was very wary of purchasing ANY USB adapter because of the compatibility issues between SP2 and the various adapters.
It isn't terribly hard to get things working appropriately. I found that the onsite support PDF file helped a lot.
I give this product 5 stars. It works flawlessly, except for the SP2 hitch....But you can't really blame anyone but MicroSoft for that one.

Works good for me on WinXP SP2...., July 21, 2005
By user (Tennessee)
After reading all the reviews I was very nervious about getting this adapter. I went ahead and backed up my system before installing it. Mine was the B4 revision (newest) and I reviewed Dlink's support website which had an excellent PDF file on how to install this correctly with SP2. The CD install (which installed the latest driver, V1.4.2.10 and the V3.4 manual/guide PDFs) went fine, then I followed the SP2 instructions and it installed correctly. I have since paired my new Motorola E815 phone and my Palm Tungsten E2 (Hotsync only) with no problems. The Widcom tools seem very good. I can recommend this unit fully. It should be noted that the other vendors adapters (Belkin, Linksys, etc) seem to have the same issue with WinXP SP2 in that Microsoft's driver gets used. You have to follow the vendors recommended proceedure to correct it or you WILL have problems.

Worked perfectly for 7 months, then died., July 18, 2005
By user (New York, NY)
I have an eMac running OS 10.3 and my D-Link Bluetooth Adapter worked perfectly, until last week when it died for no apparant reason. To exchange this $40 piece of equipment to D-Link, it will cost me $17 in shipping. I will not be buying a D-Link product again.

No problems - Win XP Home & Professional SP1, SP2 & ME, June 3, 2005
By user (Los Angeles,CA)
I bought this adapter in October 2004 and have been using it extensively with my Sony Ericsson T610 & now Nokia 6230 cellphones. I use the adapter to synchronize my outlook items, download ringtones, pictures, games to my cellphones.
I didnt have any problems in installation. I installed the drivers/software from Dlink website instead of the CD. Working like a breeze if you follow the instructions provided in the website.
**4 stars for the product**

Stay far away!, May 28, 2005
By user (Sf, CA)
I've bought Bluetooth DBT-120 version B4 adapter....Included driver on CD and even online support download page doesn't work on Windows XP due to installer bug! You must manually update driver from hardware properties to load appropriate D-link driver... After installation D-link driver always complain about `security code not found' and acting like a virus by opening message box every few seconds! After spending on it $40 and over hour of fighting with software bugs I've returned all my recently purchased D-Link hardware including this adapter. (Lucky me I still was under 30 days of return period) Sound like company got very weak development team and no software quality assurance control all! P.S Belkin Bluetooth adapter was installed in just few minutes without single issue.

Terrible, May 22, 2005
By user (New York, USA)
Off the box it doesn't work with XP SP2. There is a conflict between their driver and the Microsoft driver. You have to force it to use the dlink driver in the Device Manager, and in my case it still didn't work. Tech support is useless. There are 3 hardvare versions of this device, each of them using a different driver. Obviously some of them work with some computers and some operating systems. If you happen to have the wrong combination, you're out of luck.

Believe it or not, May 18, 2005

I use this handy little "dongle" on my XP home sp2 system to allow mt zire 72 to hotsync and access my network to surf the web, read email, and IM. I really am glad I bought one. Now don't get me wrong. It was not peach city from the start. I did get my PDA to hotsync from the get go. But alas the internet access was beging to look like a pipe dream. I even gave up on it for a few months and decided I was happy to sync and have one less wire on the desk. Then like two weeks ago I did yet another google for help. This time I struck gold. Don't waste your time calling the support staff. They kept telling me to call my ISP. Now I am not some MS tech. But I had enough sense to know my isp would be as lost as I was. Well if you read this and want to link a PDA to the net from your desk, have no fear. I can tell you it does work. So if you need the link I finally used go to: http://www.whizoo.com/bt_setup/ Take the time and read and follow this how to from start to finish and pay heed to the part "ICS is the other common problem." I think this was what did the trick for me in the end. Happy hacking ;-)

Not working properly with Apple wireless mouse and keyboard, May 12, 2005
By user (Houston, TX United States)
I am using the DBT-120 ver B3 to operate the wireless Apple keyboard and mouse. If my computer goes into the sleep mode, I cannot wake it up by typing on the keyboard and I have to use the power key on the Apple monitor. When the computer does eventually wake up, it takes a good 2-3 min before the mouse would work. Apple tech support says that they have seen this problem and went through a few solutions but none worked and I was asked to talk to D-link. The D-link tech supports told me that their software stops running when the computer goes to sleep and that is why my keyboard and mouse do not work, and there is no solution to that. Thus, if you plan to use D-link when the computer goes to sleep, it won't work. I am sticking with my wired keyboard and mouse now.

Five minute set-up on XP SP1 - Works Great!, May 6, 2005
By user (Bloomington, IL United States)
After a miserable time with a Linksys BT100 Bluetooth (which I never did get to work properly), I tried the D-Link 120 (rev4). I started by downloading the rev4 driver from D-Link. After unzipping the folder I hit the install icon in the folder and just folowed the screen prompts. No Codes, no problems or error messages. It has been totally flawless so far. I have low, but useable signal all over my small two story house. I haven't tried it on our Mac iBook yet, but after reading other reviews I tend to think it will be fine. I was starting to think Bluetooth was a waste of time after trying the Linksys and reading some of these reviews, but I'm glad I tried the DBT-120. While trying to get the Linksys going, I spent alot of time learning about bluetooth setups. I don't know what is causing problems for other users, but I'm just not having any under XP SP1. Now if it just lasts through the three year warranty.

horrible drivers for XP do not buy, April 3, 2005
By user (Ft Lauderdale, FL USA)
I bought this product because I use them on my macs so I figured stick with dlink on this but what a mistake , the driver is a total disaster! it loads generic drivers then it complains about a security code then if you get that all worked out the driver will then declare you do not have a valid license! This thing is useless in windows! That driver is a joke! Seriously do not buy this for windows it will not work!

Great adapter!, March 22, 2005
By user (Eagle County, Colorado)
How could anyone give this adapter less than 4 or 5 stars??
I've been using this adapter with my PowerMac G5 ---- I decided to forego buying Apple's adapter, and once I realized that I made a mistake, I went ahead and grabbed this adapter
So far, I'm very pleased with its performance --- I've been using both a Logitech BT Mouse, as well as an Apple wireless keyboard with it ----- I've been very happy with the performance of both things ----- and the transfer time rates have been very fast
I will admit though - I think that the Apple adapter is better ----- but for the price, and the quality, this adapter can't be beat - I highly recommend it!

Does not work with Windows XP, February 9, 2005
By user
Piece of junk. Do not purchase for use with Windows machines. Drivers have not been updated for nearly 18 months now and customer support is aweful. Was informed to download and reinstall the drivers from the DLink website with no results. Will never purchase another DLink product.

Revision Licensing, February 2, 2005
By user (Los Angeles, CA)
Be aware that older revisions of the dbt-120 (see technical support with D-Link to determine current version) are not compatible with the newest available drivers. This leads to default use of older drivers and the inability to network with some other bluetooth devices (e.g. dbt-320).

Hard to make Version B4 work with XP SP2, January 14, 2005
By user (Alameda, CA)
Mine was a DBT-120 Ver.B4. I kept getting Security Code errors when installing it using the B4 software, so I called Tech Support. They said I had to download and install the software for Ver.B3, not the software for B4. Then I had to tell them the MAC ID number for the device, and they gave me a very long Security Code, which I had to enter manually. When I plugged in the DBT-120, XP SP2 automatically installed its default driver, and I had to use Device Manager to manually update it to the D-Link one. In the end, I got mine to work, but it took all day to figure out how. The fact that the first one I tried was actually defective didn't help my attitude either.

Getting DBT-120 to work with XP SP2, January 13, 2005
By user (Silicon Valley, CA, USA)
To confirm, this does work with XP SP2. I have it plugged into a IBM T41 and can do an Activesync over BT with my MPX220.
Keys are: - install the drivers that come with it - the SP2 bluetooth drivers overide some of the Dlink functions but that is ok - The follow the instructions below: from: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=116080 "1. delete the partnership made on computer and under bluetooth in settings menu on phone 2. set up bluetooth PC software to have a specific com port open for incoming. 3. open pc activesync and set same com port to allow connection. 4. THEN turn phone bluetooth on discoverable, and have PC search for device to establish partnership with and follow through the instructions Mine only worked with activesync if I made a partnership AFTER I specified which COM port to use with PC bluetooth AND PC activesync."

very poor quality driver and tech support, January 13, 2005
By user
this is unfortunately the worst piece of hardware ever bought as it does not work! it says it is for win xp but using the driver disk provided gets the "not valid license" message so you cannot use it! The support website is no help as the new software stills gets the CODE NEEDED window where there is no code provided! [...]Very Very disappointing product!

The Windows Drivers Are Terrible, January 9, 2005
By user (Chicago, IL USA)
I have wasted hours on this device trying to use it. After about 45 minutes of rebooting and driver installation/reinstallation, I can usually get it to work for a little while before one of WIDCOMM driver programs crashes. Once a program crashes, it requires another 45 minutes of work. Avoid this device for any Windows use.
