Updating your firmware, January 12, 2007
By user (Nashville, TN)
This router was very easy to install and get working, but after a week or so we could not connect to the wireless network anymore. A reset of the router solved the problem, but I figured I should update the firmware just to make sure that I was up to date. Lo and behold - the "check for firmware updates" button in the web interface of the router did not work, and it took me forever to find the belkin web page that has the latest firmware version for this router. It's at the page below:
[...]
After I upgraded to the latest firmware version, the "check for firmware updates" button in the web interface now works ;-/. Hey, they fixed something. That's a good sign.

Not getting Belkin the next time., January 10, 2007
By user
It's not exactly the cheapest out there but the router failed on me a couple of times. It has intermittent signal issues. At first I thought maybe it's the location so I moved it around.
Then one day, I couldn't find it on the wireless network. Spoke to tech support and after 2 hrs, they decided to send a new one.
Here's the thing. YOU, as the consumer, have to pay shipping cost for shipping back the defective unit. Tech support never mentioned a word about it. I got mad about it. Why am I responsible for paying to ship a defective product?
After wasting much time with the customer service, they finally sent me a shipping label.
Besides that this Belkin router lacks an information manual. It has a quick-start leaflet and that's about it. There are no information on how to change the internal settings using hard wiring and an IP address.
Not buying Belkin ever again.

Cheap and it shows, January 9, 2007
By user (El cajon, ca United States)
I used one of these routers at home to connect my desktop and laptop for basic file sharing. It does work ... sometimes. I often have to keep my laptop within six feet to get it to keep a connection. Pathetic. I wish that I had spent the extra money for Linksys.

Great product, one small drawback for Mac users., January 9, 2007
By user (USA)
This is a great router, easy to set up or recongifure. The only small fault I found only pertains to Apple users; it only works with WEP security on a Mac network. Maybe a firmware update at some point will fix that.

So far so good, January 5, 2007
By user (SoCal)
Bought this and a DSL modem as a replacement for a 2Wire AT&T Yahoo modem/router combo that died. I've had it up and running for about a month and so far have one minor complaint. There is no stand to mount it vertically. I ended up hanging it on screws on the side of my computer desk. Other than that, setup was a breeze with the provided CD instructions. It connects any one of 3 laptops and one desktop in the house, anywhere in the house. I took a laptop about 90 feet away to the back corner of the yard and the connection worked fine. No drop outs or non-connections so far. It is well worth the $33 I paid for it.

rock solid router, December 28, 2006
By user
The discrepancies between reviews depends on what version you get. I have a v1000 of this router with two antennas, and it is rock solid. I've been running it almost 24/7 for almost 2 years and I never had to reboot it once! It's not as fast as a buffalo, but blows away my linksys (which needs a reboot every 3-4 weeks!). From the current reviews, it looks like Belkin messed with a good thing.

Rock Solid!, December 26, 2006
By user (Philadelphia)
Replaced my fried D-Link Xtreme G, which would tend to drop signal and make me reconnect a couple times a day. This is a noticeable improvement...haven't lost connection once in the month I've had it, and I get a stronger signal. Setup was a breeze. Great deal, especially for the price.

Cheap but Crap!, December 20, 2006
By user (UK)
!!!!ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED!!!! I would give ZERO stars if that would be possible. First it all went fine. The installation process is easy. After some time, though, the router just sporadically switches off the wireless connection. Sometimes after a couple of hours, sometimes every 5 minutes. The only thing you can do then is unplugging and re-plugging again to let it restart. That is a pain especially when you need continuous online access. I checked out on the web, but found no one offering a solution for that. Instead I found a couple of people having the same problems and couldn't fix it either. I am going to buy another one from a different company now.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!!, November 30, 2006
By user (Denver, CO USA)
Setup was easy, almost too easy... the wireless connection drops all the time and you have to restart both the router and computer for it to work again. I've had this router about 1 month and the wireless stopped working completely today. I cannot connect at all anymore! I will be returning this product and buying a router from a different manufacturer. Don't waste your time with this router - you will be disappointed if you do!

Great value, easy setup, November 26, 2006
By user (Nashville, TN USA)
This is the best router out there on the market for the price. You don't need to spend twice as much on a fancy router with a bunch of ethernet connections in the back because if you're like me or most people, you're not hooking up 4 computers to the router, you want to use them all wirelessly. This was a breeze to setup using the web-based interface on my Powerbook running Mac OS X 10.4.8. Took about 5 minutes. My wife and I can easily connect our work laptops if we bring them home, and get on our company's VPN to connect to the company intranet and shared drives. It also allowed my wife's older HP notebook to connect, when I always had problems with the Apple AirportExpress that I previously had before it died and I got this Belkin router. I am a huge Apple fan but I have to say, this is one product where the inexpensive Belkin is actually more compatible and in my opinion, easier to work with than the Apple product. So unless you have to have the AirTunes or remote printing features, I wouldn't spend the extra money.

Would not recommend this router, November 10, 2006
By user
A good price but got what I paid for. Unit runs fine for a while then just stops for several seconds(about 20) then starts again. Would NOT recommend buying this.

junk, November 7, 2006
By user
worked okay for a few months, then started dropping connection to the cable modem randomly, requiring frequent power cycles. eventually, the unit could not be contacted at all via wireless connection and THEN wouldn't even power up. look elsewhere.

DO NOT BUY - Version 7000 is being recalled, October 24, 2006
By user (Baltimore, MD USA)
Be careful what you buy from Belkin! I purchased this router and never got it to work. While on the phone with Belkin customer service, I was asked two different times if I was sure I had Version 7000 (as indicated on the bottom). I confirmed that I did, and she finally told me to just return it and get a different one. I bought a Netgear router and it's working just fine.

Buy a router from someone that knows routers!, October 24, 2006
By user (Downers Grove, IL United States)
This router works for one or two days and then drops its connection. Cycling the power is all that will clear it up, and in another day or two it happens again. As other reviewers have said, Support is no help, and firmware does nothing to help with the problem. Look around the internet and you'll see how many people can't get this router working well.
Belkin makes good computer accessories, but do yourself a favor and spend a little extra up front on a wireless router with a name behind it like Linksys or D Link. The Linksys that replaced this Belkin has worked flawlessly, while the Belkin is collecting dust. I couldn't bring myself to give this headache to anyone else on Craigslist....

OK Product, Horrible Service Department, September 22, 2006
By user (USA)
Watch out, Belkin has moved tech help to India. Can't get to advanced tech help, must wait for a return call. I've been waiting over a week. No call. I bought another router from another manufacturer. Be forwarned.

Easy to install, works all the time, August 28, 2006
By user (New York, NY USA)
I have had this router for about a month and have had zero problems. ZERO! This is a big deal for me because I am worthless when it comes to anything with an "on/off" switch. The set-up was quick and I think anything with an opposable thumb could install it. The price is pretty reasonable too.

Drops connection- horrible support, July 28, 2006
By user (Austin, TX United States)
I've had this router for about 9 months now and it drops the connection about once every 2-3 days. Many times all the lights on the unit go dark. Remove the power plug and reinsert and it will work again for another 2-3 days. Belkin support has been no help and firmware upgrades don't work. Total piece of junk. Will be switching to Linksys.

good router, but doesn't work with all ISP's, July 15, 2006
By user (Santiago, CHILE)
I don't know if in USA happens this with any ISP, but I bougth this router from Chile, and it doesn't work with mi ISP (VTR Banda Ancha). With other ISP's works fine. I know that is a problem of VTR, but I don't care, doesn't work for me.
