Fairly good router, no problems except for installation, May 24, 2007
By user (Philadelphia, PA)
I had never had a wireless component before purchasing this product so I was a little apprehensive about setting it up. Fortunately, the instructions from the Easy Install CD guided me through setting up the router, even which wires go where. I was happy with the Easy Install there. That was until it got time for it to detect my router. Now, mind you I could already see the laptop sitting next to me had access to wireless network I had just set up, so I knew that I had installed everything and set it up properply. Unfortunately the Easy Install still couldn't detect what I already knew was working. This frustrated me. Not to mention that I called customer service and the wait was awful. That was the worst part because all I wanted to do was set up a password for the network and renname the SSID.
Anyway, the alternate setup instructions helped. I went online and configured all the settings, and was online with a protected wireless network in no time. So far I have had no problems with connection loss or loss of ranger or anything else. I would recommend this, in fact, because the price is so good. I got mine from Staples for 39.99, and I'm glad I didn't spend more. This has been great. I'm just a day in and I love it.

My roommates hate me!, May 20, 2007
By user (Astoria, NY USA)
I got this router because it was cheap. I should have known that you get what you pay for. I have to reset it 2-3 times a day. My roommates are constantly losing their wireless connection. Every 20 minutes they yell, "Your router stinks!" I found out there is a class action lawsuit against Belkin, in which this product is included. I am getting rid of it and buying another brand.

Like it, but..., May 17, 2007
By user (Hudson, OH, USA)
I agree with most other reviews. It works well for what it says... but for some reason, no matter what I do it doesn't work with firefox or AIM correctly. I have no idea what the problem is, but it's very inconvenient. I don't know about other people though. I might return it

Big Disappointment, April 27, 2007
By user (Connecticut, USA)
This thing was a huge disappointment. It worked for about 15 minutes, then conked out. Waste of money, don't buy.

Use it carefully, April 18, 2007
By user (Walnut Creek, CA USA)
First of all, as proved by many computer experts, the performance Wi-Fi and 802.11x devices are far less reliable than 10/100/1000 Mbps 802.3 Ethernet NICs. If you decided to buy one 802.11b/g/n router in order to get the "wireless" convenience, be prepared to face the inconvenience of some new problems.
I have used several brands and models of wireless routers (including Linksys, Belkin, and Netgear) in the past three years. None of them were perfect and I had to spend some time to figure out how to work around some technical problems. This one is my latest router and I have been using it for five months. I have to say, this one has many functions that I like, it is usable, but the reliability is not good.
I really spent some time to find the firmware upgrade web page from Belkin, as the automatic upgrading function seemed not working. Belkin does not have a direct link from the product page of this model.
The reason that I was trying to upgrade the firmware was that the router didn't support Wi-Fi constantly, and pushing the "reset" button or rebooting the router didn't always help. After the firmware upgrade, it still has some problems, including:
- The web mode to configure the router does not work in many popular browsers such as firefox, if an administrator password is enabled. Every time after I input the password, it will report error. But thank God, I found Opera browser works in my Linux system.
- Sometimes even though I set up the administrator password, I can still configure the router without inputting the password. This is definitely a security hole. The router doesn't support cookies. Instead, it uses IP address to recognize a user, but IP address can be customized easily by anybody who wants to initiate an attack.
- The DHCP for WAN (Internet) does not work well sometimes. When electricity is out for several seconds, it may take a long time to get the DHCP work. To avoid this problem, I use static IP for both WAN (if allowed by ISP) and LAN. Sometimes, however, similar problems are caused by the DSL or cable modem.
Since this router also has functions such as port forwarding and several WPA modes, which is much safer than WEP. I will continue to use it, but very carefully.

Does what its supposed to...., April 16, 2007
By user (Anywhere)
After reading some of the horror stories about setting up Belkin wireless routers, I hesitantly purchased this model one month ago. So far, so good. Set up was a snap, and thus far the router has performed excellently. No reboots, no dropped lines, no hesitation, or anything like that. I use it upwards of 9 - 10 hours a day and would recommend it to anyone who asked me.

Lived good for a year before starting its slow death, April 11, 2007
By user
Year 1 was good. Can't complain too much about it considering the price. Then started year two. I have to unplug the darn thing at least 10 times a day since the router just dies all of a sudden. I don't know what to think. I blame myself for buying the cheapest thing on the shelf but then for every person that raves about the Linksys there is another person that says its garbage. I think a company out there needs to be build a solid router and not really worry about price because if it'll work and continue to work I think we'll all pay the higher price.
In short I wouldn't buy this router. Pay more and buy the Linksys, I guess, but its a toss-up on what your experience will be with any wireless router *sigh* I just want a product that works!

Good choice, April 5, 2007
By user (Washington, GA USA)
I had researched long and hard to find a simple, low-cost router to use around the house. I recently added DSl for my desktop and wanted to be able to use my wifi notebook occasionally. I had actually considered some higher costing routers but finally settled on this one. I brought it home, took it out of the box, and it took me less than 10 minutes to set it up. I had heard so many horror stories about router setups. This was a piece of cake. Good signal, good speed, good choice. Great buy!

Great product for the computer illeterate, April 3, 2007
By user (FL)
I don't know anything about computers and especially connecting them. I was scared to death to do this alone. I called my cable company and they wanted to charge me 150.00 to install then I knew I had to be brave and do it myself. It was very easy and did not take me long. I had to call the company once and he was great and he made it painless. I say if you are looking for a router this is the way to go and it is not expensive.

never got to find out if it worked, March 18, 2007
By user
In trying to get it set up, I went through multiple help technicians, most of whom were difficult to understand All that was accomplished was to mess up our internet connection, and then was told that my ISP would have to straighten out the problems Belkin created. One technician was honest enough to admit that the install disc was practically worthless. Otherwise, it was nothing but a headache of waiting on the phone, being cut off, being shuttled around, and getting nothing done. We did finally have good success, with another product.

Easy to Setup & Good Signal Strength, March 8, 2007
By user (India - Kerala)
The router was easy to setup and the signal strength was good.

Very bad performance, March 7, 2007
By user (USA)
My belkin router often drops connection around 1:30am. Have no idea why it chooses this time. I had thought my ISP was doing daily maintenance at midnight. However, after I reset my belkin router, everythiing works fine.
Another weird problem is that when you have multiple computers connected to the routers (wired/wireless), only a pair of them can reach each other. (Yes, I disabled firewall on the router and all the computers.) Therefore I can not share music, files, video and certain server applications among all of my computers. Big pain!!
The security log is useless. Also, everytime you reset the router, historical log got lost forever, and the clock reset to Thu Jan 1 00:00:00 1970 again.

Garbage!!!, March 4, 2007
By user (Linden, NJ United States)
Had the router for only 3 weeks. Started dropping the internet connection to both my laptop & desktop within 3 days. Belkin told me to change the settings after I sant them numerous emails for help. Now, one week after I set this up, the router is completely dead. Belkin hasn't responded to any of my emails since I told them about this 3 week old product dying out on me.
Buy a Linksys, it will save you the trouble in the long run.

Easy to set-up and works great, February 25, 2007
By user (Nebraska)
I've set this router up a few times for people and also watch a couple novice users (my dad) set this up without any problems. It grabbed his current internet connection settings from his computer and put those on the router during the install. No problems here, and a very good price.

Great for basic home use, February 25, 2007
By user
Installation is very easy and within few minutes the router connects entire house to the internet. The speed is quite reliable. Alternative options from internet providers are just way too expensive.
