Bridge does not work!, July 16, 2008
By user (McLean, VA USA)
The problem I am having with this product is that I am trying to use this in front of a network switch, but that does not seem to work. I have it working fine when connecting to just one computer, but when I place it in front of a switch, it only connects one of the computers. The other computer either can not get an IP address and on the occassions it does get an IP address, it won't can't communicate outside of the switched network (can't communicate with the router).

If anyone has a solution to this problem, please let me know. I have tried the web config, but there wasn't really much you can do in there other than switch the adapter's ip from static to DHCP.

It does what it's supposed to do, July 12, 2008

Easy to setup, and easy to program, easy to use. The device provides a stable connection for my Xbox 360. I read many of the reviews on other devices (linksys, d-link, netgear) and I'm glad I bought this one as I have had no problems at all. I also use the device to connect my Directv DVR so that I can receive video on demand. It's not super speedy like an "N" adapter would be, but it maintains a rock solid connection and does a great job in getting the programs downloaded.

I highly recommend this device.

Confusing, but works well, June 18, 2008
By user (Aiken, SC)
Its weird to have to give the unit an IP address, then give the device your connecting it to an address as well, thats 2 ip's to get one unit connected to the network. But hey it works. Used it to connect my Directv HR20 to the internet for ondemand and remote scheduling.

Reliable, fast, supports WEP and WPA..., June 5, 2008
By user (Los Angeles, CA)
After a recent move, I discovered the the cable drop into my new apartment was situated in such a way that running an ethernet cable into the office was impractical in the extreme. As a programmer, my office contains a number of networked devices, not all of which are wifi-capable. I needed a way to bridge a switch in the office to a wireless router in the living room. To complicate matters, I run WPA2 encryption on my wireless network and am unwilling to revert back to WEP (especially if *all* outbound traffic will necessarily be traversing the wireless network).

After a lot of hunting, I ran across this little guy from Belkin, and it works like a charm. After a firmware update and a little tinkering with the configuration I have a fast, reliable link between a Linksys WRT54G on the cable modem side and the wired network in the office, all over WPA2.

In setting this up, my main concern was that the hop over an encrypted wireless link would create a substantial bottleneck in the network, but in practice I'm seeing only a very minimal drop in throughput. Unless you run a side-by-side wired vs. wireless bandwidth test, you're not likely to notice any slow-down in actual usage, even with bandwidth-intensive applications. The bridge has also been dead reliable - no drops in connectivity, even through two walls and under heavy traffic loads.

The only cons to this unit are that the web-based configuration interface is a little goofy, and you'll need to update the firmware yourself to support WPA. If you're not using encryption on your network, neither of these should be an issue.

All in all, a great product. Highly recommended.

Worked fine , no more cables across the floor!, May 22, 2008
By user (West Palm Beach)
This product works fine!!! The instruction manual told me how to access the system directly, and set-up was simple. I can PING the device, or PING "through" it. I does what I need in that it allows me to keep my loud or hot servers in the garage, while I work from my home office. Sweet

It came with a setup CD, but when I used that, the instructions were lacking, and it did not have all choices, etc. So try it first, but if it doesnt work, just read the manual about how to access the system, and it is easy from there on.

couldnt get it to work, April 20, 2008
By user (Marshfield, MA United States)
I purchased this item for my direc-tv hd dvr to access my home network to get on demand. I couldnt get it to work using the enclosed cd. I couldnt get it to work after hours and hours with the Belkin support people. I hired a computer expert to try to get it right and he had no luck. I returned the item and gave up on the whole idea.

Not so impressed when it came to setting it up, April 10, 2008
By user (Atlanta)
It is too pricey compared to Buffalo ethernet converter which can act as a DHCP wireless. This one you can only be configured with a CD that comes with it not via IP address. I had to reset a couple of times to get it to work and I called support and they were not able to detect it. While waiting for support to call back when I was having issues. I then reset again and used a different laptop and wass able to get it detected and configured correctly to be used by my HD Dish receiver. It's a good wireles bridge but too Pricey.

    just what I needed, March 29, 2008
By user (Denver, CO USA)
The first one of these I ordered was defective, but now that I have one that works, it's exactly what I need. FYI, the setup disk didn't work at all, but tech support directed me to the browser-based setup which worked fine.

It works fine, March 20, 2008
By user (Aurora, CO USA)
I am using this for Directv On Demand with my HR-21 HD DVR receiver and it worked fine right away with no compatibility issues. I can't exactly speak for speed because Directv On Demand is SOOO slowwww (imagine downloading an HD movie over the internet-definitely not for people who want it, uh, on demand), but it seems to be working fine. I guess about the speed I would expect it to take to download that stuff over my internet.

for my Directv DOD, March 18, 2008
By user (Little Rock, AR USA)
I got this adapter to work with my Directv Download on Demand. Since I use a hidden wireless router, I set it up first in my laptop using the router identification. Then, all I had to do is implug from the laptop and plug it into the back of the Directv box.

It hooked up within a couple seconds and I was able to download videos without a problem. I had only one instance where it wasn't working, but it was likely due to a brief power outage. I unplugged the power, left it for a couple seconds then plugged the power back in. It reestablished comms immediately and has worked fine since.

My wireless signal comes from a Linksys 802.11b and no problem with the different brands hooking up.

good price ethernet wireless adapter, March 10, 2008
By user (usa)
this is a good adapter . i got it at a good price too.
looked at wall plugs for extending ethernet via power lines.
they are more expensive.
set up with a secure connection is a bit tricky not because the instructions are not clear but because somehow all my computers initially did not recognize the belkin.
dodnt know what i did but after several tries one of my laptops recognized it and then the set up was a breeze.
some times when i start it up it takes a long time to catch the internet connection. sometimes i have to do a reboot.
thats my only issue.
it does not get on the internet right away.
i guess it may work faster if you used a non secure network set up.

Works with Mac G3/OSX.2, needs PC for secure setup, March 5, 2008
By user
This thing works GREAT with a Mac G3 running OS X.2. Applephiles beware: you need a PC to provision the device with an SSID and WEP key if you want to connect to a secure network. After that, I bet it'd work on anything with an Ethernet port.

Works great. Just watch the Flash buttons and ENTER key, February 26, 2008
By user (Boston, MA)
This bridge worked like a charm. I have a Netgear FS605NA 5 port switch Netgear FS605NA 5-Port Fast Ethernet Switch. I connected the belkin to my linksys wireless g router (using shared 64-bit WEP protection. Then I simply plugged in the ethernet connection to port 1 on the netgear switch and plugged in my downstairs desktop and my xbox 360 and voila! High speed internet downstairs without any holes in the wall or cables running across halls and stairways anymore. This is a much cheaper price to pay than wiring your whole house.

The only negatives are that the flash installation wizard grays out the NEXT and BACK buttons until you mouse over them and that you can't press the ENTER button. Being used the common grayed-out look I assumed they were inactive due to something being wrong. I spent a good twenty minutes testing things before I happened to pass over the buttons with my mouse. Now they highlighted and I could click and continue to the next screen.

Also, don't press the ENTER button ever during installation. It closes it out. Most web forms and applications mask the ENTER key to the same as pressing NEXT or SUBMIT, etc. However the flash installation exits completely if you press the enter button, thus you have to start over.

Lastly, it would be nice if the installation wizard displayed available SSID's in case you can't remember yours. A simple feature.

Despite this nitpicky issues, it still works excellently and get 5 stars!

Easy to set up on unsecure network, February 13, 2008
By user
I have an open wireless network based on an Apple Airport Extreme (802.11n) router. My goal was to add one of my older Macs (a PowerMac G4 Cube) to the wireless network. All my other devices (PC and Mac) already have built in wireless cards, but I had been too cheap to get this when the Cube came out... and these older machines can't cope with the latest model Airport cards apparently.

I plugged in the Belkin unit using the quickstart instructions, pushed the button on the back, and it located my network. So I was up and running in about 3 minutes. Or less. Great device, easy to setup, works out of the box with an unsecured network, and has good throughput as advertised.

I think this product work great, February 8, 2008

I use this product on 5 (including my work station) systems. it is a plug in and go item. I usually choose to recommend this to people with little or no computer expierence who need to access a wireless network. they just plug in the ethernet cable and they are done. Keeps me from having to visit them to get them online. Then i use a remote desktop to take care of the computer for them.

Much Better Than The Linksys WET54G, January 19, 2008
By user
I purchased the Belkin F5D7330 802.11g to replace the Linksys WET54G. The Linksys model crashed multiple times a day. I've had this Belkin model for two weeks and it hasn't lost signal yet. I am extremely satisfied with this product.

If you are looking at both models, don't waste your money, like I did, with the Linksys WET54G. Go with the Belkin F5D7330 802.11g and you won't be sorry (and it's $30 cheaper too!).

Could not have been easier, December 28, 2007
By user (Northern VA)
I had the product configured and connected to my 128-WEP wireless network in about 5 minutes. The install CD does not run on Vista, so I had to use my XP laptop.

Then after disconnecting from the laptop I brought it downstairs and hooked it up to my son's xbox and he was online and playing. After it has been disconnected from power and then plugged back in, the unit does not try to join the network until the gaming system (or whatever client it is supporting) is turned on.

works great and a lot cheaper than the adapter Microsoft sells for the xbox.

This thing works., November 19, 2007
By user (Denver USA)
For it's intended purpose as a game adapter, the box says "Game Adapter", it couldn't be simpler. Hook it up, turn it on, it works.

For a secure connection it's not quite that easy. The furnished CD Wizard didn't work for me but you can access it via your browser. My use was to access the Internet from Linux via the Ethernet port.

I could see how it could be used to replace an ethernet cable if you have a wireless router somewhere with a wall in between.

It comes with a dual USB connecter which could be used for power, but it also comes with a power adapter.

Slick product.

Works Excellently with My Macs, September 29, 2007
By user (Pelham Manor, NY United States)
Just bought this thing hoping to gain wireless access to my Apple WiFi Extreme Router.
Im using this on an older G3 iMac in my basement.
The WiFi Extreme is on the first floor.

So I plugged this ethernet adapter in and boom, instant fast access!
Didnt required any configuring. It just works.

Way to go Belkin!

    Ok, I guess..., September 15, 2007
By user (Irvine, CA United States)
I bought this router about a year ago. It worked fine for about 8 months. It did what I expected it to do and I had no complaints. Then a few months ago, my internet connection started getting flaky. I'd recently moved and thought it was just a bad internet connection in my new location. I'd get lag in games when I'd never gotten lag before, and even web pages took a frustratingly long time to load (this on high speed cable connection). Last week, I lost my internet connection three times, for about 30-45 minutes each. The signal was fine from the modem, but I just wasn't getting a connection. I thought maybe it was unannounced ISP maintenance. Then, four days ago, I suddenly had no more internet and no more happy lights from my router. The thing just died on me.

I replaced it with the D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Wireless Router. I'm extremely happy with it and no longer have lag in games, my web pages load instantly, and I can stream videos no problem. Guess my internet connection was fine after all!
