Marry Belkin & Dlink? Forget it., March 10, 2008
By user (East Wenatchee WA USA)
I bought the Belkin F5D7132 to work as a range extender with my Dlink DI-624 wireless router. It was a horrible experience trying to get it to work with the Dlink. The auto-configure function? Functional, but if it loses power (which it must in order to move it to its intended location after configuration) it forgets how to talk to the Dlink. Using the web browser interface is a losing proposition as well. The unit was completely schizoid regarding the result you might get from one moment to the next during the ultimately unsuccessful struggle to configure it.
You might be okay if your intent is to get this device to talk to another Belkin device; otherwise I suspect you're asking to suffer if you intend for it to talk to a non-Belkin device.

Great Product!!!, March 10, 2008
By user (Altamonte Springs, FL USA)
Out of Box setup was no problem at all. I did follow one or two of the guides on here, and set up the WPA settings via the web login.. Placed this next door at my neighbors house(40 yards away) (my neighbor tends to be my uncle, lol.) And he gets an excellent Wireless signal from the Belkin Repeater.
Kudos to a great product!!

OK at what it does., March 10, 2008
By user (virginia)
This range extender is pretty basic, and as such, it does an OK job. Its Windows-only configuration utility is touch-and-go at best in my experience, and its web configuration tool is very basic. I am using it to extend my wireless network at home, as well as using it to bridge a wired ethernet connection to my home server. In that capacity, the unit is also OK--if there is not activity initiated from its wired client, it often shuts down all connections to the client, which is annoying if you're downloading a file using the connection. If the firmware were updated with a keepalive feature, this product would be greatly improved. Overall though, the thing operates pretty well.

Works for me, March 8, 2008
By user (North Carolina)
Out of the box set up was no hassle. Sometimes it has to be reset, a modest 60 second procedure. Rebroadcast signal is as fast as the original, creates a little bit of lag for VOIP (Skype). Living in a rural area I did not have to deal with the security issues others have reported. Not usually fond of Belkin products, but for the money this is a good addition to a wireless system.

A little frustrating at first, March 7, 2008
By user (McKinleyville, CA USA)
It took some experimentation I but I finally got this thing to work the way I wanted and it performs well. I first tried the half way method, but ended up getting a much better result by moving the unit to the full distance (in the room where I was not able to get reception from my wireless router to my tablet PC). I now get "excellant" signal strength in that room (30 feet away, but through several walls) where I could not even stay connected before.

Belkin Range Extender, March 1, 2008
By user (New Milford, CT United States)
Belkin F5D7132 Wireless-G Universal Range Extender It's useless. After spending 5 days trying to talk with tech support in India, they concluded the product was defective and arranged for me exchange it for a new one. The replacement is no better, and I have given up on it.

Got it working, finally..., February 29, 2008
By user (Georgia)
I wanted to improve wireless connectivity at my mom's house, and was drawn to this product by its' price. Upon receiving it, I decided to try it out on my home network. Right off the bat, at least for me, it seems that, unless you have a Belkin wireless router, the auto configuration option does not work.
However, by connecting to my router by wire, and then installing and using the PC-based configuration software, I was able to access and configure this unit for my network. All I had to do was change the units' IP address, and then use the "site survey" function to find my wireless router. Once connected, it worked as stated.
I have found that, with regard to range enhancement, it is very particular about placement. My next test will be to install it at my mom's. Hopefully, it will work well in that environment.
I didn't need to call Belkin tech support, but I did read the reviews of others, and applied some of what they learned from their experiences.
The bottom line is that it does work. I'll probably buy another one for my home.

Nightmarish setup, great techinical support (SHOCKING!), February 28, 2008
By user
I had issue that were contrary to other posters -- to reset you have to hold down the the reset button for 30 seconds. If you are still having trouble try chaning the SSID of your router and the extender so EVERYTHING matches.
This thing stole about 4 hours of my life and converted it into pure hatred, but when I called tech support they were actually very helpful. In the first 10 seconds they could tell I knew computers pretty well so they didn't babysit me through every single step at all. He just told me what to do to fix some of the devices issues. Best tech support I have had. The thing works great now.

'One-click' setup, my backside..., February 25, 2008
By user (Small Island in the Malay Archipelago)
I'm not going to reiterate the details of the many reviews below that point out how hard this is to set up and how useless the instructions are.
Suffice to say it took me four hours to get it working and I am pretty technically proficient.
It works now but it cost more than 50-odd dollars in annoyance and frustration. It's also much easier to set up with a spare laptop so it can be configured in situ and NEVER unplugged.

did not expect it to work so well, February 25, 2008
By user
Have a Belkin N-I router and could not get a signal into my theater room - could not go online with the video games and the laptop would only work in a few sections with a low or very low signal- I have no security settings on my network and it took 10 minutes to hook up - works great so far - the only complaint is that if your power goes out you have to re-set the repeater - make sure you place it somewhere that is easy to access. Also if to will not re-connect after pressing the white button for 30 seconds - press the re-set button and try again. very very easy to operate - also you will the speed of the computer will be reduced
with no security settings

Belkin F5D7132 Wireless-G Universal Range Extender, February 22, 2008
By user (NH)
I don't use security since I live in a very rural area so I had no problem at all setting up this product. Basically I took it out of the box, read the (small) manual, and four minutes later had it set up in my family room to extend my wireless network. Connection is rated "excellent" or "very good" consistently.

This product is really good, February 21, 2008
By user (Bloomington, IN USA)
I would like to say this product is perfect. Before I got this product, I just had a 1~2 signal. However, I can get 5 signal after I purchase this product. And this product is easy to set up.

Works Great, February 18, 2008
By user
Works great and easy setup. I live in a 3 story townhouse, with my main wireless access point in my 3rd floor office. Reception in the basement was unreliable, and would fade in and out. I added the Belkin Extender in about 10 minutes and my signal strength through out the house is now at maximum. I am only running 128 bit WPA so I have not verified the reported problems with WEP. WPA is working fine so I have no complaints. I do get an occasional IP conflict with one of my 2 laptops attached to the Belkin Extender, but it does not hurt performance. I am absolutely satisfied with the product.

Belkin Range Extender, February 14, 2008

Belkin Wireless G Universal Range Extender/Access Point - Wireless access point - 802.11b, 802.11g This product is worth every penny!! Easy setup, boosts your network range like it says it would!! I strongly recommend any household that is having signal strength issues. You do not have to be computer savvy to use and enjoy the benefits of this product.

Works well as an cheaper Xbox 360 wifi adpater, February 13, 2008
By user
I bought this wireless access point to act as a wifi adapter for my Xbox 360. It was a bit of an ordeal to get the device up and running and it occasionally drops the signal from my router, requiring the power to by cycled, but it is also nearly $60 cheaper than the only wifi alternative for the 360.

Farther but...faster?, February 8, 2008
By user (Iowa, USA)
I bought this Range Extender upon recommendation of the Belkin folks after my MIMO G+ router couldn't overcome my signal-absorbing environment (big old house, first-floor modem, second-floor laptop)...and simply put, it works! I went from "no" or "very low" signal to "good or very good" though I suspect the speed advantage of my (MIMO G+) router is compromised. Yet given my current environment, the extra $40 or so for the Range Extender is well worth it...I mean, I wouldn't be writing this from the relative comfort of my (second-floor) kitchen without it, so...buy it!

Works Like a Charm Right Out of The Box, February 5, 2008
By user
I read all the reviews from people who said it was hard to set up and all that but from the time I opened the box until the time I was done it took me about 2 minutes. Plug it in hold the button for 15 seconds and you're done. My network doesn't have any security crap so it's easy to work with. Most wireless security can be hacked anyway so why bother? I've never had a problem and now my range extends all through the house with at least 3 bars no matter where I'm at.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, February 1, 2008
By user
This unit is a piece of trash. It DOES NOT connect easily or quickly. The directions are useless. The tech support isn't worth calling. I tried all of the connection tricks outlined in the other reviews and the #%&* thing still wouldn't work. The hammer fixed it though....
