How to get it to work with WPA2 and Macintosh, February 28, 2008
By user
This print server works great for me. It is the only one I could find that supports all USB printers and supports WPA2 encryption.
The Axis manual provides Windows software to configure this wireless printer server, but not OS X software. So here is how to set it up using only the built in web interface. First you will notice that this device is wireless only, no 100baseT wired connection. So if you are running a wireless network using encryption you have use the provided software on Windows, or turn off your wireless encryption to set this device up properly. I purchased this print server because it supports my Ricoh Color Laserprinter as well as my WPA2 wireless network. First you have to turn off your encryption on your wireless access point. Plug in the Axis to your printer and hold the reset key down for 5 seconds. You will then get a print out on your printer with the IP address it picked up. Use your browser to go to this IP address and configure all the settings except the wireless security. (I renamed it and gave it a permanent IP address, which I had to set on my router as well.) Save and restart the Axis. Now go to the Axis's IP address in your browser. Configure the wireless security to match your normal settings. Save and restart the Axis Go to your wireless router and reset the wireless settings back to their normal security settings. Restart it. You may need to physically power off then on the Axis if it takes you a long time to reset your security settings on your wireless router. You should be all set.
If not, start over by powering off the Axis, then hold down the Reset button and plug the Axis back in, holding the Reset button down for about 20 seconds. This will reset the Axis back to its factory defaults. You then have to remove the security settings on your wireless router and reconfigure the Axis Wireless Print Server.

Poor usability & compatibilty problems, June 4, 2006
By user (San Francisco, CA USA)
For me, the AXIS OfficeBasic USB Wireless G Print Server did not work. I suspect that, because it did not receive its Internet address over the wireless network, that the print server could not talk to my Linksys WRT54G router using WPA. The router might have worked on an unsecured wireless LAN or a WEP wireless network. However, I prefer the security of WPA, so I opted to return the unit.
I should mention that the unit is difficult to setup. My wife and I are both software developers and it took us 3 hours to conclude the unit was incompatible with our network. Also, the unit's usability is low due to: lack of error notification (e.g. there was no error notification when DHCP could not be negotiated) and no way to reset the unit to factory defaults without connecting to the unit's web server. If you think about it for a moment, the problems this poses are frightening.
Adding insult to injury, this is the most expensive print server you can find. It has the many features, but suffers from poor usability. Your luck may be better than mine, however.
